The weather has turned a little more Autumnal now as we settle back into our term-time routine. There are still lots of activities and exciting things to look forward to, though, and it seems to be getting busier and busier.

The last month has been dominated by the UCI cycle races. Here is a brief summary of the main things the Tadcrafters team have made and been up to since the last newsletter:
10/9    September drop-in session
17/9    Last-minute bunting-making session for UCI cycling
19/9    6 twiddlemuffs, 3 hats and 5 patchwork quilts to YHTC
19/9    3 blankets, a shawl and 1 quilt to age UK at York Hospital
21/9    Tombola stall at UCI cycle race/Tadcaster festival of cycling
27/9    Su’s Interview on Radio York with Dom Busby

Thank you

Thank you to
• everyone who has contributed this month, especially to those lovely people who attended a last-minute bunting-making session at such short notice. We managed to get quite a lot extra made; we’re such an efficient machine…
• Nina, Chris, Edna, Valerie, Jennifer and Anne for the twiddlemuffs, hats blankets and quilts, and especially Anne for the printed Tadcrafters logo tote bags which we will be selling for £2.50.
• Lynda, Anne and Valerie who stayed all day in the gorgeous sunshine at the UCI stall.
• Vanilla Interiors, as we are going to be receiving regular donations from them.
• Everyone who has donated bras. We sent another 125 this bringing our total now to over 2000!

The next drop-in session will be on Tuesday October 8th when we will be finishing off the bunting and knitted owls for the Jane Tomlinson OWLS project Welly Walk in November. (OWLS = Overcoming Worry, Loss and Sadness- supporting bereaved children aged 4-11). All completed items need to be with us at the drop-in session please. More information about the OWLS project is available on
We’ll also be continuing with knitted/crocheted poppies to support the poppy appeal. Any left over from decorating the memorial in Tadcaster will be given to the British Legion for them to raise funds, and we’ll be making a start on turning the knitted bunting into twiddlemuffs.

The first TadGrafters session, for people who want to make things from wood,  will be on Wednesday October 9th 4-6pm at the Barn. We have a professional joiner, Craig, who is going to lead the sessions and the plan is to make hedgehog houses by recycling wooden pallets. The session is open to people (adults) of all abilities but to make sure everyone remains safe we need to limit numbers to 10. Anyone interested in joining in should email to book a place, but if you only want a chat and a cuppa just pop down. If all goes well we will be continuing at this time every second Wednesday of the month.

TadApple Day

We’ll be squashing apples again on TadApple Day at The Barn on Saturday 12th October, 12-4pm. Bring the family with you and any type of ripe apples and we will help you to chop and press them into lovely fresh apple juice. Bring a clean container with you if you would like to take some home. We’re collecting spare containers (clean milk cartons are fine) and we’re looking for anyone who might like the left over apples for animal food or compost. Help on the day would be appreciated.

Tombola stalls

We have the Duck Race (5th October) when we’ll be having a lucky dip, and the Tadcaster Christmas Market (1st December) coming up. If you are able to donate any items, ideally of a crafty nature, they would be very much appreciated. Items for the duck race are best to be delivered on the day now. If you are able to spare an hour or two to help run the stall on the day let us know and that would be great too as they can get very busy sometimes as we seem to be very popular.
