The volunteers of Tadcrafters CIC and TEMPT (Tadcaster Events Management Project Team) have managed to secure funding to be able to offer the Tadcaster and surrounding villages community lantern-making workshops and a lantern parade.

Members of our community will be able to make a wide variety of lanterns at  workshops open to the public. Other workshops have been arranged for pupils from the 3 Tadcaster primary schools and other some other groups.

We have two professional artists who are working with us to help your community group/business make the spectacular show-stopper lanterns. If you  would like to make one of these please come along to the session on 3rd and/or 9th February 10am-3pm at Manor Farm where help, equipment and materials will be provided for you. Please allow plenty of time. NB the entrance to the building is at the back.

You or your children can make one of the smaller lanterns at the workshops on 3rd and/or 9th February at 10am-3pm Manor Farm if you prefer. The cylinder lanterns can also be made on the afternoon of 10th February 1-4pm at the Riley Smith Hall.

If you have a lantern from previous years that needs a bit of TLC you can also bring it to the Riley Smith Hall on the afternoon of the 10th for a quick patch-up.

Once you have made your lantern we look forward to seeing you in Sainsbury’s car park from 4pm in preparation for the Parade to start at around 5pm when it gets dark. We will be walking to the Riley Smith Hall where we will be able to gather for a while after the parade.

For more information about the Parade please see

A big thank you to all the TEMPT and Tadcrafters volunteers who will be supporting these events and also to the Town Council and the National Lottery Fund for supplying the significant funding to make it possible.
