We had another great drop-in session in May with lots of lovely blankets, scarves, hats, personal effects bags, twiddlemuffs and tombola prizes. Thanks to everyone who contributed especially those who I didn’t manage to remember who brought what. Most of these have now been distributed, except a big pile of twiddlemuffs that will go off soon but are currently being borrowed by the Brownies for a talk on dementia.
BIG NEWS!!
The next drop-in session will be on June 12th 10am-4pm. The big news this month is that we are moving about 100m down the road to the Manor Farm Centre (opposite the John Smiths entrance on St. Joseph’s Street). We are hoping that we can confirm this as a permanent move shortly. This new venue is much more accessible as it is on the ground floor and has plenty of space for us all including a kitchen and some comfy sofas. Please call in and see us, the entrance is around the back of the building.
We are leaving the Social Club because Sandra and Cliff are moving on. We are completely indebted to their generosity in allowing us to meet at the Social Club for so long. Without Sandra’s enthusiasm Tadcrafters would never have happened. She has helped us to touch the lives of so many people in the local community and across the world, most of whom she will never meet. We wish Sandra and Cliff the very best of luck in the next chapter of their lives.
Recent Donations
We have donated our first products with the Tadcrafters Logo on now. Anne and the Tuesday Quilters made most of the personal effects bags for the hospice, and she also made some beautifully quilted blankets which went to Age UK at York Hospital.
One year on from the Tour de Yorkshire in Tadcaster and people are still finding and returning bunting for us to re-use. Thanks to Sue who has been busy making twiddlemuffs from the little knitted jersey bunting. She has also been making a start on the bunting for the forthcoming Tadcaster Arts Festival (7-15th July) which we will be finishing off at the next drop-in session.
Days for Girls
We’ve been asked to support a Days for Girls event on Wednesday June 13th 10-12 and 1-3 at St. Columba’s URC, 32 Priory St. York. If you would like to attend or would like more information please contact Katie at katiestcolumbas@gmail.com
Stalls and tombola
We’re always happy to receive donations for the tombola stall. The next one will be at Stutton Fair on 23rd June. Lynne will be collecting offers of help to look after the stall on the day. Any small items you have made are great plus anything else you think is suitable as a prize, even if it is a bit quirky. No age restricted products, like alcohol, please. We really value the money we make on the stall for all the boring stuff we can’t avoid paying for so your support is very much appreciated.
Gardening: Grow Wild Project
We’ve been digging and sewing and planting and watering this month. The little seedlings are just poking their heads through and the nettles and dandies have been tamed. If you pass between Ingleby Drive and Hudson Way on your way for a walk along the coach road you can marvel at all Lynne’s hard work.
Next Projects
Our July Drop-in session will be during the Tadcaster Arts Festival. To celebrate we be joined by Neil Lawton, a wood turner, who will be demonstrating his skills and will also give Tadcrafters a go at making something on his lathe. Neil is very experienced in teaching wood turning and runs his own courses from his workshop in York. Please feel free to invite friend or two to the session who might like to join in. For more information have a look at his website. http://www.workerinwood.co.uk/
Bunting-making will be starting again in earnest soon. Brace yourselves! We need to finish off the poppies for WW1 centenary too. Please have a look at the calendar to see where you would like to get involved in the many events we have lined up. Lynne and I always appreciate your support.
Wish list and current projects
Here is a list of current projects. More information about each is on our website or you can email for instructions. You don’t need to come to the drop-in sessions to contribute to our projects so if you would like to join in by making at home or with your friends/club that’s absolutely fine.
